foot pain

for the past two days i've had searing foot pain, probably due to a large bunion on the side of my right big toe. it's gross, i know, but not too gross. at least its not due to smelly fungus on my foot. it is, however, extremely debilitating, and i can't walk or ski or do anything fun at all. i'll try riding the spin bike, but pushing down on my right foot will most likely result in pain. i try to keep it iced and elevated, but that's pretty hard too. super poopers, for sure. i also think i may have a stress fracture because of it, and that's what causes the pain.

tele teaching

sunday was super dope because i taught my friend liz how to telemark. besides her learning and liking the sport, the highlight of my day was being called a "homeboy" by one of the demo center employees. it was pretty awesome. the best place to teach anyone to ski or snowboard is off the triple. its amazing how good lullaby lane and lower gulch are for learning. they're wide, sunny trails that nobody ever goes on and usually have really nice snow. liz was funny because she hasn't skied in fifteen years. now, she's on nice, new bd joule skis that are wide, light, and shapely. she could make decent enough alpine turns, so that was a good sign. by the third run she was yelling at me from across the trail about how she was getting it and that she loved it and that she could do it. it was awesome. the main idea i tried to get across is that you're not supposed to drop your back foot, but instead, push your front foot forward and switch your feet quickly. its funny skiing slowly for a while and making tons of turns. it's really fun and different. i also love the triple chair. you get to see all the idiots going off the park jumps and going down hackets. again, as usual, we ended the day at the horn and got some good cans of pbr and a slice of pizza, aka the best pizza ever.

bruce

saturday was sweet because i slept in and woke up and shot out some texts to some friends. doug responded that he wanted to go to breakfast and i obliged and met him at mccarthys which was awesome. we then went up to the mtn, left my car at the horn, and took some tele runs off the quad. i just got my skis tuned, and if you've ever telemarked before, sharp skis are somewhat of a pain in the ass. they are really grabby and especially your inside/uphill ski. it takes a couple of runs to realize that it's not so much the ski or the tune, but me and my inability to ski dynamically enough to push the edges. whatever. i'll learn at some point. anywhoo we went skiing in the sun because it was cold and nosedive looked wicked dark. ridgeview/sunrise/living room/abu/enterprise/family glade/lower family glade/crossover was a great first run. snow was great, esp in family glade, see picture. similar second run...no woods, but sunrise/lower standard was pretty sick. one more run in the sun then bruce trail. bruce to horn is quite a run. sat on bruce bench, abu again. snow was great up the sides of bruce, and lots of tele turns were made by all. see pictures. i love the lower section of the bruce where it's like a roller coaster and you can go wicked fast and get air over the bumps and rollers. also love skiing through the xc center because the josephs that are skiing there look at you on your ski gear hauling ass down the trails and cant figure out what's going on. they certainly don't expect you to have come from the top of the mtn. at horn, we had front row tickets to the saturday pm shit show. it was awesome. at one point neither doug nor i knew anybody there which is weird because its usually the opposite. more and more friends trickled in. drank some and ate some and went home and passed out.
